The Office of the General Counsel is responsible for all legal matters of the University of Kansas. In carrying out that responsibility, the General Counsel and other members of the office draft legal documents, review and recommend action on University contracts and agreements, represent the University in legal actions, and provide legal advice to those who administer the affairs of the University. Kelly M. Nash, Senior Associate General Counsel 913-588-7281. Kelly Nash joined the General Counsel’s office in March 2015. Prior to joining the University, Kelly was in private practice at Bryan Cave, LLP and most recently at Littler Mendelson, P.C., where she practiced in. One of the important functions of the Office of the General Counsel is to provide counsel, assistance, and information to University employees about the policies and procedures of the University, the Board of Regents, the State of Kansas, and the federal government. The General Counsel is generally available to provide such information relative to legal matters that arise out of an employee's.
Prior to joining the Office of the General Counsel, Jen served KU as a Program Coordinator in the Policy Office from 2016-2019. Jen graduated summa cum laude with a Liberal Arts degree from Washburn University. Prior to coming to KU, Jen previously worked as a Business Analyst for Cerner Corporation in Kansas City, Missouri. Kim Grunewald joined the General Counsel's office as an Associate in November 2011 and in September 2018 Kim accepted the position of Deputy General Counsel on the Lawrence campus. Kim obtained a B.A in Political Science and an M.B.A. from the University of Kansas, and a J.D. from DePaul University. After law school, Kim served as an Assistant.
Eric Aufdengarten joined the General Counsel’s office in January 2019. Eric is a fifth-generation Kansan and a 2003 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Law. After graduation from law school, Eric served as a research attorney for the Honorable Lawton Nuss at the Kansas Supreme Court. Eric previously served as Assistant Attorney.
